National Burger Day at Dalston Yard
Posted on
My job as a freelance photographer often takes me to really cool events, one of these was National Burger Day, which took place at Dalston Yard (current home of Street Feast) on the 27th of August.
This year was Mr Hyde's first #NationalBurgerDay and Tweat Up threw a huge party to celebrate, showcasing UK’s best burger chefs and restaurants.
The full line-up included: Bleecker St Burger, Byron, Dirty Burger, Disco Bistro, Honest Burgers, MEATliquor, Mother Flipper, Roti Chai Street Kitchen, Slider Bar and Two Nights Only.
I needed to photograph as much as possible in daylight, so I couldn't stop to queue for burgers, but I did manage to try a Byron burger before catching the train home. Le Smokey, created by Fred Smith, had smoked cheddar, streaky bacon, crispy fried onions, iceberg lettuce, pickles and a special smoked chilli barbecue sauce. Delicious!
In no particular order, here are my photos of the #NationalBurgerDay burgers!
Most people got in the spirit by wearing funky burger accessories. There were also traders selling burger pies (Eat My Pies), BBQ burger and brioche bun ice-creams (Sorbitium) and burger macarons (The Crumbery).
A special mention to Kooky Bakes Maple Bacon Dosants (ie. cronuts), which were on sale at the Mother Flipper stall.
For those in need of a strong drink in between burgers, there were tables lined up with Picklebacks and Chillibacks.
There was a pickle-eating contest, with £100 bar tab for the winner (we still have nightmares thinking about that guy devouring 10 pickles in 60 seconds)!
The party ended with a few rounds of Cheeseburger Piñatas (of course)!
Another great street food event that makes me love London even more!
PS: Please visit food markets and support all our amazing traders: theirs is not an easy job, but they always strive to offer original, delicious and best quality products!
